Monthly talks
We hold 10 Talks per year, every 3rd Monday of each month at the Fromus Centre, Saxmundham. Our programme is a mixture of in-person and on-line meetings and non-members are very welcome to attend.
Doors are open from 14:00. Free to Members who also have the option to attend via zoom. Non-members entry fee £5 per talk.
With experienced and knowledgeable guest speakers from all over the UK, free parking, free refreshments as well as a supportive and welcoming community - why not become a member today?

Jean Laidlaw is talking about Samuel James Robert Legerton who was the first coxswain of the Lifeboat at Clacton. He received medals from R.N.L.I. and was honoured by the French government. Janet Huckle will tell us about "A policeman's heroic climb." John Deans will talk about Alfred Francis Edward who died in Eritrea during the war and how John managed to obtain images of his final resting place.

Since Covid-19 we are very aware of epidemic disease but what epidemics impacted the lives of our ancestors? How did they attempt to prevent or cure these diseases & how effective were the measures?

Ashley will be speaking about talks he has had with farmers and farm workers over the last 35 years, farming along the Suffolk - Essex border. Ashley describes the many changes in farming methods and also describes traditions such as Michaelmas and Lord of the Harvest.

Basil Brown was a local archaeologist, who was most famous for his excavations of the burial mounds at Sutton Hoo. However, the life and achievements of the man behind one of the greatest archaeological finds of all time are less well known. This talk and Sarah's book, shine a light on Basil Brown, his motivations, passions and discoveries as well as his ability to enthuse others.

Saxstead Green Post Windmill is currently owned by Stephen and Jonathan Sullivan and has been in the ownership of the same family since 1873. The current mill dates from C1796. This is an exceptional opportunity to hear Jonathan talk in person about his family owning the mill and how the family still live on site today.
