Membership

We believe in keeping things simple, so we offer only one type of membership: INDIVIDUAL membership at a cost of just £10 per annum. 

Benefits

On becoming a member, you will enjoy:

• Free access to our monthly meetings, currently hosted at the Fromus Centre, Saxmundham. These highly sociable events include talks on a range of family and local history topics delivered by knowledgeable speakers. You will also have an opportunity to chat with fellow family historians while enjoying light refreshments. As a bonus, there is free onsite parking. Members may also opt to watch the monthly talks online via Zoom without additional charge.
• A digital copy of the group’s quarterly newsletter delivered by e-mail. This highly valued publication is packed with information about the group’s activities, including upcoming events, write-ups of recent monthly talks, articles contributed by other members, appeals for help with research, the latest news from the world of family history…and much more.
• Regular communications by e-mail alerting you to current offers, including discounts, from major subscription sites such as ancestry and FindMyPast (other providers are available).
• Exclusive access to a password protected members’ area, where you will have online access to a range of unique family history related material e.g. searchable digitised copies of past AVSFHG newsletters.
• As a new member, you will be entitled to one-to-one support from an experienced researcher in the use of the ancestry subscription service for 12 months.

Membership Renewal

Historically, membership fees have been subject to a common renewal date of 1st January. For those members who joined before 1st January 2026, this date will continue to apply. However, for those who join after 1st January 2026, renewal dates will automatically be set to coincide with the anniversary of joining. e.g. if you became a member on 15th January 2026, your renewal fee will fall due on 15th January 2027.

Recognising that we all lead busy lives and that it is easy to overlook these things, you will automatically receive advance notice that your membership is due for renewal. We also allow a grace period of three months before regarding a membership as lapsed. Please note, however, that the grace period does not influence the original renewal date i.e. if your renewal fell due on 1st January 2026, but you did not pay your subscription until 15th February 2026, your next renewal will fall due on 1st January 2027.
